How Would You Classify Your Knowledge of Pigeons?

Hey,

I hope your enjoying the website, as much as I am enjoying making it! 🙂 and I really want to get to know you better, I also really want to get a good feel of your comfort level with pigeons this way we can continue to bring you more informative content that better suits your needs.

So in this weeks discussion of the week I would like to know…

If you had to classify your knowledge of pigeons how would you classify yourself? would you classify yourself as a beginner, intermediate, advanced or expert? and why would you classify yourself as that?

It would also be great if you can add into your comments how long you have been involved with pigeons as well for example 1year, 20years etc.

So go ahead and post your comments by clicking here.

I am really looking forward to hearing from you and getting to know you better!

Yours in the sport,
-Chris

  1. I was involved in pigeons for 4years which I did ok in my club. I won a couple of races. And was first four in my federation. But I had to move house, so gave up the sport.
    That was thirteen years ago.
But I was recently away with my wife for the weekend. And happened to meet another couple sitting in a bar. We got chatting and guess what. Yes your rite .
He keeps pigeons. He offered me four pairs.
So I purchased them for breeding . So here I am again back in the sport.
I bred some young pigeons from these old pigeons that I purchased.
I was second in the third race, beat by 10 seconds. First club 5th federation in the following race. Then my club had to stop racing.
So I have purchased some more pigeons for this year. So here’s hoping all goes well for 2024. So I would classify myself as an intermediate, still learning as much as I possibly can.

  2. I first started racing pigeons as a young lad in the mid 70’s, i had moderate success (1 or 2 first a year) before leaving the sport to pursue the interest of any typical young person.
I restarted in the sport in the early 90’s racing a small team of widowers, again with moderate club success, before again leaving the sport due to pressures of a young family.
I eventually restarted in 2020, purchasing birds of extreme distance backgrounds, unfortunately due to covid and breks it , i wasn’t able to test them in channel racing until last year (2023), to say i couldn’t fly a kite on a windy day would bean understatement. I haven’t yet figured out what I’m doing wrong, but I’m generally 20 mins behind on the land races, which i expected with my type of birds, but in the nationals I’m struggling to get day birds. I love the sport and spend many hours thinking of how i can improve with the dream of getting a day bird at 500 miles plus.

  3. Hi Chris.
I am not a racing person. I have bread pigeons for eight years. My goal after breading for a few years was to breed the colours of the original Columbia Livia. Which I have achieved but mostly the Blue Bar with the white markings. The Blue Bar is a beautiful bird. The breeding, and seeing the babies and what they look like in early stages is incredibly interesting. I have benefited from your website, the racing side of it is your main concern and that’s ok because the majority of your members are racing people. So I’m the odd one out. But I pick up good pointers too.

  4. I am new to the pigeon racing world. In fact, I have been involved in racing pigeon for about nine months. Therefore, I am interested in all facets of pigeon racing. I enjoy your articles that you have posted.

  5. I have been in the Pigeon sport since 1981 over 30 years. I have helped clubs start, I have been a race secretary for many years, I have been involved with creating special races, club races, and get people started in the sport.
I learned a lot about the birds and maintaining them through reading the books published by
The Jansen Brothers,, Rotondo, Pigeon health by Dr. David Tudor, Healthy pigeons by Dr. L. Schrag, David Glover/ Marie Beaumont, Marie Ditcher, Colin Osman in widow hood, Barkers Pigeon Racing, a few other books written in Dutch from the Netherlands.
I have flown against many big names in the Central Jersey Combine Like Ed Stanislawszik Joe Zack, Sam Grocott, Tom Fahmie and most of all from my FATHER Mr. TED LEBRUN who got me started in the sport.

  6.
