Hey all,
I have been reading many articles and news feeds ever since the news broke that Mike Tyson was getting his own show on animal planet about pigeon racing and I have noticed that some people have been bad mouthing the sport, pigeons and fanciers not to name names (PETA). They have been saying all sorts of things like pigeons are dirty, fanciers mistreat their birds, animal cruelty and so on and so forth. It’s obvious to me that they don’t know this sport and hobby at all nor do they know us fanciers.
So I figured who better to clear our name then US! we have a great group of fanciers here on the www.pigeonracingpigeon.com blog. So post your comments below and tell the rest of the world what pigeon racing really is all about and who we fanciers really are. Tell them how much you love your pigeons and how pigeon racing is a wholesome hobby that involves the entire family, promotes bonding and responsibility just to name a few.
So go ahead and post your comments here and let’s set them straight.
Thanks for your participation.

No one is more surprised than me, that I have gotten so into pigeons and pigeon racing, and stayed with it. I just love my pigeons! I am a pastor and I started with whites for White Dove Releases in 2007. At first I thought I would be doing a lot of weddings, but for me doing funerals is even more spiritual. I often hear from a loved one, I feel like I let him go. How healing! To learn more about pigeons I contacted a local AU club. And I was hooked. I am a racing pigeon fancier. I tell people that spending time in my loft is for my mental health. My family laughs at me and calls me a farmer when I put on my loft clothes and do chores. My family though is very supportive of me and my pigeons. I have learned how to mend and medicate my own birds. I take extremely good care of them. I now am known as the pigeon pastor in my area and get calls from total strangers about a lost or hurt pigeon. The area pet stores have my name and number. Many people no very little or nothing about pigeon racing, including me initially. While many do not understand my passion, I talk about my pigeons all the time and at times maybe too much (I can tell when I need to move onto something else and do), but others know that I just love my birds and support me in it. Even when I loft train I just love to lay in my hammock and watch them fly overhead. In the last few years though my competetive juices have taken over, especially when life long flyers tell me that I will never be able to compete with those flying 30-40 years. Did I say I love my birds? I am on the Pigeon Insider site every day and hunger to learn more on how to be a better loft manager. I recently heard from Dr. Colin Walker from Australia in person. It was great. I have made so many great friends as well. Just my two cents.
being a pigeon fancier is more that what people who don’t love pets can think about.. there a lot of joy when seeing your pigeons returning back when you let them fly up in the sky an dhow much more when you give everything to your birds beyond your knowledge and resources for them to have achievements.. not to be fastest but how far the pigeon can be toss and then still come back.. achieving for the trainer to make their pigeons be faster is a different challenge for those who are really can give plenty of tym and dedication..
TO BE A PIGEON FANCIER IS A HONOUR.IT IS A SPORT FOR MY WHOLE FAMILY.MY CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN ENJOY IT A LOT.THEY CANT WAIT TO HELP WITH THE FEEDING AND TO HOLD THE LITTLE CHICKS.I CALL THAT BONDING.IT IS MY FREE CHOICE TO LOOK AFTER MY PIGEONS 365 DAYS.THERE IS A BOND BETWEEN MY PIGEONS AND ME AND EVERY TIME THEY ARRIVED FROM A RACE IT GIVES ME GOOSE BUMPS.ALL THEY ASK IS TENDER CARE
Everyone has his own different hobby , some like shopping , some like drinking , some like touring and so on , but one thing they should know , mind your own business .
We fanciers around this earth is like one huge family, always smiling, laughing, hand shake, hug one another. We tease one another without hurting each other with words and all get together’s is joyful to the fullest even though if the fancier is from another country.
This is totally the opposite of those Hippocrates in saying bad and horrible things about fanciers who doesn’t know the differences between a cock and a hen racing pigeon. They don’t know that the racing pigeon is keeping allot of men and women out off the street trouble as they are and we fanciers take better care of our families and racing pigeons alike.
I dare any racing pigeon Hippocrates and all horrible saying people about our racing pigeon fanciers to come to me or any other fancier and see and learn from us about our hobby, sport, competition and business before the open their filthy mouths again. If any one can’t find anything wrong in my racing pigeon lofts or say any thing that might offend me about my pigeons after they criticizers me, I’ll get a court order to shut such a person for good. This is no threat and I am serious.
When I hear comments about pigeon fanciers abusing their birds,it bring to my mind a few things. One would be is that there are people who will always use the abuse argument no matter how well we treat our birds, these are people that know not. There are some that do ande you used to see them at pigeon shows. They are called feather merchants. Fortunately organizations such as the National Pigeon Assoc. has forced them out of their shows. There are hundreds of fanciers that take excellant care of their birds to the one that does’nt,so we all get stereotyped. We will never satisfy all because there will always be someone who will sy that canaries should’nt be in cages. Jack
to me its a bonding tool for our family .
yesterday there were hawks flying around my grandson who is 8 came running in and said hawk we got to scare them off he climb a tree quick as anything pulled a mirror out of his pocket and started to shine it toward the hawk and yelling get out of here your not eating our pigeons it was so quite
so that’s my story for having pigeons FAMILEY
I only personally know one person who is involved in pigeon flying races. He is not the type of person that would abuse any animal of any kind Hope you win the race Stacey
Thanks for posting Nancy
Fanciers love their birds almost like their children. and that is the misconception the public has with this sport.
Thanks again for posting

To me pigeon racing is a great part of my life. And most pigeon people i know are very good people. And take great care of thier birds feeding only the best feeds. Keeping close eye on thier health. I have known many people that have owned other kinds of animals who have do not care for thier animals as pigeon flyers do. People like the ones in PETA do not understand. Or are even willing to understand why pigeon owners love and care for thier birds as they do. I have had neighbors who hated the birds. But most did not understand why i owned them. That is until i have taken the time to talk to them about what it is that makes me love them as i do. I do work hard at getting along with everyone even if they do not like pigeons. I respect that not every one will understand why i have them. All i ask is that they listen and keep an open mind about them.I have changed a lot of closed minds about pigeons in general.
yes they no nothing about pigeons orthe expence we layout to look after our pigeons and match the man that have50 cats to get them nutered
To me this people hate animals and want them dead.I have problem with one of my neighbor he has more than 50 cats all sick and no one do nothing about it.But when people take care of their pet like us we get screw up.
