** NEW DIMENSION TO THE PIGEON RACING SPORT ** Brand NEW effort, based on a concept that has been around and used sparsely. Post Office Pigeon Racing is an effort to provide casual racing for small lofts, also to provide distance racing at lengths much longer than currently available. I think the sport is growing, but minutly. I am just trying to re-enter the sport. I participated 25+years ago. There are more individuals and clubs now than then. If the sport is to grow faster then the key is education. With organizations like peta are publishing erroneous information then we all get setback. Education and positive publicity will go far in increasing interest in the sport!
Pigeon racing is a growing sport in North America.
The pigeon sport is definitely declining in South Africa, we have seen dramatic drop in the number of fanciers. In my opinion some of reasons are:
1.The youngsters of today have to many other distractions i.e.Video games, Cell phones and pressures at school with sport leave little time for pigeons.
2.The cost of racing and road training are increasing each year making difficult for the family man to afford.
3. Wealthy big team fanciers are making it difficult for the small team fancier to compete.
i think that the sport is stagnant generally but i believe that the east ie China there is growth.
Youth. thats about all I can say about it. The younger generations need to be educated on the sport to grab their interest. Older Flyers should be helping young flyers. help them along , mentor, I’ve seen more often then not, how the older generation lets the younger guys hang themselves. In turn the younger guys get frustrated and quit. I’ve seen people try to charge big money for their birds. They should be happy that someone thinks enough of them to ask for birds.. but the Older guys are afraid of getting beat by a young guy with their birds. When they should be happy that someone has their birds and are doing good
Pigeon racing is one of the sport that man are into. Here in Philippines mostly all walks of life, they engage in this kind of sports as diversion, business and for fun. Hundreds of Pigeon clubs and hundred in each club were members. Now, in order to maintain and grow we must benchmark on how how to raise and race on this endeavor so that it will not saturate by few people who are really capable in doing so.

I think it is in a danger,me being a young star feel that it is loosing its popularity as people are not knowing about it specially youngstars they know pigeon racing for ex in bangladesh the school which i study from there out of 2 thousand students know and love pigeons as my father and uncles are releted to it but no one realy knows about it
Thanks
aafter reading all of the post about why the sport is dying it is obvious that change has to come if ppigeon racing is to grow in numbers. my club has 16 members and was started up in 1961 but the ccost of club expenses is making it hard to keep the cost down for the members. change will come sslow but if you come to your meetings an speak up for change at every opportunity it will eventualy ssink in. the sport is to great to watch it die.
ssome ideas i have brought up many times at meetings and when having conversations with with oother flyers are.
my club owns the shipping crates that hold 35 birds, we should buy a trailer ($ 2000.00 )
it cost me $35.00 out 65 miles and back. if all the crates were used it would only cost $ 3.50 a crate to train your birds, ( i go 3 times a week, only wanting to cover my gas)
2. we can only ship 20 birds to race an only the first 2 count on the race sheet for position
we should have double races where only 5 birds are shipped and they all show on the race sheet so the small flyer won’t have to compete with larger times.
3 on the combine level we only have one class of flyers. all members must compete on the same level.
why not have two clases of flyers. at the end of the season look at the average speeds of each an divide them up. the flowing season the top 50% compete against each other and the others do the same.
4 we all know as in real estate it’s all about location ,( location, location, location,) we should consider changing the race course each year so no one as the advantage. if your clubs fly from the north to the south west, then next season go south, then the flowing season go west, then back to the south west.
cchange can be made but we must want it for the good of the sport. try it you might like.

the sport is slowly dieing doe to the resistence to change. the people that should be leading the clubs and combines like things just the way they are because it works for them. when someone in your club comes up with a good idea back them up. the ones that like things the way they are try to take control and will always tell you all that the idea is no good are won’t work. listen to the people that are interested in helping the the club to grow. vote for the good of the club, not for the few. most clubs and combine do the same thing year after year and their members wonder why they don’t grow. did you ever think that maybe the people at the top don’t want change. their is a saying in business that you move forward or go backward, you can’t stand still.
