well to be honest for young fanciers trying to get set up in our sport its just to expensive for them to get going they need all the help they can get to get started also i think the sport is not getting enough media attention for all the hard work that we as pigeon fanciers put into it 365days of the year i think our sport is one of the best sports in the world but unfortualey theres not enough encouragment being done to get our young novice going

Hi everyone!
l found an article from PETA, I don’t know if some of you guys read it already, but l felt like l had to post it. Is related to this beautifull sport.
l highly recommend everyone to check it out.
I think there is a great decline in the pigeon sport due to very high costs involved. Our economy cause everything to skyrocket. Fuel high and road training nearly impossible. Pigeon feeds and medication prices increase at a very high rate. Only the rich people can afford. The only youngsters now a day in the sport is fanciers who can afford to let their kids race a team of birds. The pensioners just stop the sport because they just cant afford it anymore.
I think the hobby of racing pigeons might be in decline because of prohibitive costs just like Leon above me mentioned. I do think that the hobby of just keeping pigeons, such as fancy breeds, is growing, though.
its growing if i will base my insight here in our country, sad to say still to many people really dnt knw the joy of racing pigeon plus the fact tht some fanciers looks racing pigeon as a way of gambling,
pigeon insider is a great help to educate people tht racing pigeon is actually a great past time especially for young ones instead of doing anythng foolish they cn spend there time racing pigeon, hooray pigeon insider we cnt please evrybody
no matter how good we say about the sports they still has to say especially those who dont know the joy that pigeon give when it come home from a distant toss, keep it up pigeon insider for the love of pigeon and for the love of sporst, peace to all pigeon fanciers, fly high…
Pigeon Racing is a great hobby and sport. I personally believe that the sport is decreasing due to lack of money and interest. People are more fascinated with technology and games, and others just do not have time to race pigeons due to long hours of work to look after there families.
We have been racing pigeons now since my husband was in his teens and he kept them from being 7 years old prior to racing them He is now 70 and has had a great deal of success, particularly racing young birds. We live and fly our birds in the Manchester area and there id a distinct decline in the numbers of fanciers coming into the sport and as the old hands die there are no new people to make up their numbers. There is little or no publicity about our beloved sport so how are youngsters going to get interested? Also, the cost of feeding, training and membership of clubs and the RPRA are beyond a lot of peoples finances. We are in a recession and food and utility bills are crippling many families. We should all have a hobby and what could be more pleasurable than seeing your birds lay their eggs and see them hatch into your racers of the future. We all need to try and spread the word before its too late.We should also encourage youngsters to come into the sport with free or reduced memberships and help with buying clocks etc. Most pigeon fanciers are the salt of the earth!!
In my opinion pigeon racing is becoming expensive to much for the younger ones
I believe it is very much on the decline, but not to the point of disaster, it can be saved, we just need to approach it in a different manner.
In the past we promoted it as a sport or hobby, we need to now promote it as a challenge, we have the couch professionals that are constantly dictating how a play should have been made, whether hockey, football, soccer any sport, here is an opportunity to see how good they are at managing a team of athletes, same goes for our electronic game playing fans, see what you can do with real live players, not something that is on a machine.
Myself, I truly believe this is the approach we need to take to gain members, think outside the box, the old way of promoting the sport isn’t working, try something new.
pigeon racing is past growing here in the philippines..ive just started my breading last august 2012..and plan to race this summer season..clubs are growing..
I think pigeon racing has been in decline for some years now,I raced for three seasons twenty years ago,but left due to family commitments, now I’ve started up again this year and notice a huge drop in clubs and flyers,I think the loss of are inherent industry economic down turns, and the electronic age for children, house bound to Xbox etc,I do think there’s a way out though, more school talks or even school lofts, approaching various agencies dealing with addiction rehabilitation,as a form of therapeutic and emotional stabiliser,I know it works for me,the retired community looking to fill those hours in the day, also some rule changes replicating those that are used in holland with regards your chosen club and club exclusions, also prize money paid in a more equal way ie to lofts as opposed to birds with a view to ets flyers taking the top six or more prizes, this system was explained excellently in Richard turners DVD, not a promotion but as new starter I’m looking at all the information I can,the good side twenty years on there’s so much’secret information’ that is now open and honest giving people like me an opportunity to compete, something to think of when trying to promote are sport to retired people, well enough of my soap box, what do you think π
