  1. I think the sport is growing and to keep it growing we need to get more youth in the sport they are the future of this great sport

  2. I believe it is a dying sport but only because not a lot of people know it exists at all.

I’ve made it my goal to help promote the hobby in the future.

Personally, I’m a bachelor of arts student studying criminology. I hope to get my Ph.D in criminology in the future.

I’m working on a personal project of mine to develop a program which uses racing pigeons as a therapy animal in the Canadian prison systems, half way houses, community youth programs, schools, etc. The goal is to get the participants, whether inmates or troubled teens to feed, breed, train, race, and generally take care of the pigeons. In return, they get a sense of belonging, responsibility, become more socialized, and maybe most importantly become individuals that are kind and generous and have long term goals that they can strive to attain.

I’ve gotten a lot of support from my professors and they all have said its an excellent program that I’m developing so I hope to have success. Worst comes to worst, my troubles will still get media attention which is great for the sport as a whole.

If anyone is interested in getting more information on this program or just wants to talk pigeons, I can be reached at my email:

Some people don’t take me too seriously because I’m still 18, but many don’t realize that it is my generation that will truly decide if this magnificent and rewarding sport will even exist in the next couple of decades. Hopefully it does not die out, and I’ll try my best to keep it alive in my area.

    Take care and happy flying!

  3. 4. I am starting to get back into pigeons now that I am retired. First thing I get is that the birds are dirty & have sickness. Well exposure & getting people educated is needed on a grand scale to get more people involved.

    1. I think pigeon racing is growing through out the world due to you people are helping by sharing knowledge and information regarding pegion racing and much more for the new comers

  5. I believe the current state of pigeon racing is growing all over the world because many of my friends including myself looking for the good quality of racing pigeons

  6. When I compare ourselves to US we are way far off.
Just a simple availability of special feed for pigeons we are restricted to few ,funny part is I just tried to import some special additive feed from the US.I wanted to use Suptnik trapping system not available in Canada again
You can buy it from US .
We need to have a proper outlet for pigeons supplies ,
    Feed etc

  7. From my point of view pigeon racing is growing , even the market maybe at a much faster rate than before, the reason is the economy is not that bright and some people take on the sports to make a quick bucks and make everybody jump on the wagon .

  8. With the state of this economy and lack of leadership, for me, whether it’s pigeon racing or just enjoying the peace and contentment it brings, I find this hobby one of the few enjoyments I have. I don’t believe it’s declining, only hidden. I’m just starting to get back into flying birds and I’m so looking foward to it. We need start to bring to attention the fact that pigeon breeding, racing or just a hobby is not only refreshing but “So needed”.
